Words for My Daughters

Words for my Daughters is a portrait series which celebrates the legacy of women over 70.  These vibrant women, aged from from 70 to 100, are actively involved in their community and continue to live life to the fullest.  I chose women over seventy based on a biblical passage Psalm 90:10 “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures…” We have certain impressions when we think of someone older, but I wanted to challenge us to rethink age and what a woman can contribute to society in spite of age.   We often think of legacy as something we leave behind like a photo or a family bible, but the words we leave behind are also a powerful legacy.  I asked each woman to provide a message that she wanted to pass to women coming behind her.
